Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton and Prince William got married in 2011 at Westminster Abbey in London. The couple met at the University of St. Andrews in Fife, Scotland when Kate became a student in 2001. A year later, they started dating with the pair keeping their relationship fairly secret. In 2010 Kate and William announced their engagement and said “I do” the year later. Since tying the knot, the couple have become parents to Prince George, six, Princess Charlotte, four, and Prince Louis, one.

Yesterday the parents let down their hair as they competed in the King’s Cup yachting regatta, which saw them go head-to-head.

Both William and Kate each skippered their own yacht and were joined on the water by the six celebrity captains as the eight vessels competed for the historic King’s Cup.

William led his team on behalf of his patronage Child Bereavement UK while Kate competed for the Royal Foundation.

However, the Duchess was unfortunately presented with a wooden spoon after her team finished in last place, while the Duke’s team came joint third.

Body language expert Judi James analysed photos from the event and told Express.co.uk the couple appear to have gotten “stronger” since the beginning of their relationship.

She said: “It’s pretty obvious from these poses that, despite eight years of marriage and the birth of their three children, some of the intrinsic ties between Kate and William have not only remained unchanged but might have become even stronger.”

Despite losing to her husband, Kate was n high spirits as she laughed and joked with William.

Judi continued: “They have always been a hilariously and openly competitive couple, especially when they’re pitted against one another in any sport and they have always been the most relaxed and vivacious-looking when doing so.

“But these poses seem to take that playfulness to a new level, with Kate what looks like helpless with laughter while a grinning and beaming William signals sharing and approval via some congruent signals of glee as he stands beside her.”

As well as becoming “stronger”, Judi said the couple appeared to be more “relaxed”, with Kate especially showing more confidence around William.

“Kate’s body language has become so much more relaxed recently and she appears much less wary about being the centre of attention when she’s out with her husband.

“Her perfect smile is often swapped for the kind of open-mouthed, face-wrinkled laughter of what looks like genuine humour and delight and this is one of the best examples of that body language ritual.”

Similarly William displayed a more playful side, with Judi pointing out that he looked to be poking fun at his wife.

She said: “William has often looked more serious and formal and initially here he adopts his signature fig-leaf pose with hands in a self-conscious barrier gesture in front of his pelvis but he is not only laughing with his wife, he also seems to be winding her up here too, and that sense of playfulness suggests very strong bonds.

“At one point he even places on hand in front of his face to shield it from public view as he seems to whisper to her privately and the way he claps her suggests more shared fun as he wears his widest grin to suggest totally enjoyment of the moment.”

Express.co.uk recently revealed that Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle are “worlds apart” when it comes to their fashion choices.
