A KEEPER was rushed to hospital after collapsing when fans of his old club attacked him with firecrackers

This is the moment Bolivia international Daniel Vaca reportedly fell victim to away supporters as he stood in his own area for The Strongest against top-flight visitors Jorge Wilstermann in his home country.

Vaca, 40, slumped to the ground clutching his head following the attack in the 94th minute, which ended the Primera Division game early.

Local media say paramedics raced on to treat him before he was taken to an emergency centre with a “buzzing sound in his ears”.

The veteran stopper, who has 15 caps, recovered well enough to tell reporters: “I’m better now.”

Away fans behind Vaca’s goal had reportedly targeted him as their team trailed 2-1 in stoppage time at the Estadio Hernando Siles stadium in La Paz.

And after the firecrackers were hurled, police entered the stands where the trouble erupted.

But it is unclear if any arrests were made.

Adrian Monje, Director of Competitions of the Bolivian Football Federation, explained referee Dilio Rodriguez responded to the attack by blowing his final whistle early.

That means the scoreline at the time will stand as the result because in the ref’s match report the game had officially finished.

Rolando Blackburn and Jhasmani Campos had put the hosts 2-0 up inside 20 minutes.

Bolivia midfielder Antonio Melgar Vargas replied for Jorge Wilstermann just before the hour mark – before getting sent off for his second booking.

Victory leaves The Strongest in fourth place after the first half of the season, three places above Jorge Wilstermann.
