The clip – filmed in Kruger National Park, South Africa – begins with the lion holding up two lanes of traffic.

Seconds later, the giant cat begins to sprint towards an offscreen target.

When the camera pans, the lion is seen pouncing on a type of antelope known as a kudu.

The giant cat latches ahold of the creature’s skinny hind leg.

In a desperate bid to break free from the lion’s jaw, the kudu leaps up and down while kicking its legs.

But it has little effect as the predator continues to dig its claws into its back.

When cars began to drive on, the tourists see the lion standing above the injured kudu as it lay dying on the ground.

The cat’s mane is seen covered in its blood.

Behind the camera, a woman gasps: “Holy, holy, holy smokes.”

Since being uploaded to Kruger Sightings YouTube only days ago, some 480,000 people have viewed the clip.

One person said: “Nothing better than seeing animals in the wild totally independent from humans.”

A second said: “Those people got their money worth for sure. Very lucky encounter… except for the Kudu.”

“Sad, but nature at its finest,” a third added.

It comes after a pride of lions’ attempts at taking down a huge buffalo quickly turned into a fiasco when the rest of its family rocked up.
