Staff ushered customers away from the toilet and told them to leave the fast food restaurant.

It’s not known how the man died, but cops have described it as an “unexplained” death.

One customer told the Liverpool Echo : “My husband was in collecting food when everybody was talking about it.

“The body was there at the time they were still waiting for emergency services to arrive.

“Staff were advising people away from the bathroom and to leave.”

A McDonald’s spokesperson confirmed the man died in the toilet.

They said staff attempted first aid while paramedics scrambled to the fast food branch, before he was pronounced dead.

A Merseyside Police statement said: “We were called to a McDonald’s restaurant in Kensington this afternoon (Monday, 20 May) following reports of a sudden death.

“Police and the North West Ambulance Service attended the premises, on Kensington, at around 5.10pm where a man in his 70s was found to be unresponsive.

“He was sadly pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.

“At this time officers are treating the death as unexplained.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of his death, and to formally identify the man and inform his next of kin.”
