MANCHESTER UNITED failed in a late transfer bid for Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye before his £28million move to PSG, reports in France claim.
The 29-year-old is set to complete a move to the French capital next week after Goodison Park chiefs came to an agreement with the Ligue One champions.
But the deal was momentarily halted, according to L’Équipe, as United registered late interest in the Senegal international.
It is understood the midfielder requested more time to consider the move to Manchester before ultimately choosing a transfer to France.
Gueye is expected to be unveiled as a PSG player next week.
United are in the market for a central midfielder this summer, with French star Paul Pogba admitting he wants a move away from Old Trafford.
Real Madrid are reportedly “increasingly confident” of securing a mega-money transfer for the 26-year-old World Cup winner.

Sporting Lisbon’s Bruno Fernandes was top of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s wishlist, though the club are not willing to meet the player’s £70m price tag.
United also failed in a bid to convince Frenchman Tanguy Ndombele to join the club, as the 22-year-old signed for Tottenham in a club record £65m deal.
Christian Eriksen, Ivan Rakitic, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, and Sean Longstaff are among those linked with United.
