Playing for the first time alongside debutantes Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka in defence, United showed plenty of promising signs in their opening game of the season.

They settled into the game after Tammy Abraham had hit the post with just four minutes on the clock and began to read each others’ play well.

Marcus Rashford gave United the lead from the penalty spot after he himself was fouled and it proved to be the turning point in the game.

Anthony Martial struck midway through the second half, with Rashford getting another and Daniel James, on his debut, also adding to the goal feast.

Lindelof was being watched from the stands by his wife Maja Nilsson and their young son both wearing Man United shirts.

Maja uploaded a snap from a VIP box with their son with a wide smile after the result.

She wrote: “Supported daddy today” and included five heart emojis.

Maja is a keen Instagram user with 191,000 followers.

She regularly keeps followers uptodate with her life between Scandinavia and Manchester.

It included updates during her pregnancy.

With a career in marketing, Maja, has forged a successful career as a blogger and also has had her own podcast.

It has been the perfect start to the season for United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on the back of a poor campaign where United failed to qualify for the Champions League.

The Norwegian said: “The second half was outstanding, defended well in shape and counter-attacked well.

“We can count ourselves a little bit lucky to go in 1-0 up but then half-time came, we settled down and played well second half.”

They next face a tricky away match against Wolves on August 19.
