Joshua Hoes, 37, was sailing with his family in Shelter Bay, Western Australia when they decided to tempt the lurking shark to the surface.
The footage shows the moment the giant shark bit on to the fish carcass before attempting to swim away with it in its mouth.
But trouble arose when the not well thought through plan saw the rope become caught on one of the onboard men and a metal BBQ.
Fortunately, the man is able to pull the rope from around him before being dragged into the water.
However, the metal BBQ was torn from the side of the boat and was left hanging off.
The men came up with the idea after spending the day fishing and filleting fish onboard the boat.
Josh said: “Once the fish are filleted, it’s fun to attach the carcass to some line, no hooks attached, to get sharks to come to the boat for some entertainment over a few beers and to get some good footage.
“The idea is to pull it [the carcass] away toward the boat so they come in closer, and eventually let the sharks take it after we’ve had our fun.
“This particular time, the tiger shark decided to really go for it and grabbed the rope as well as the fish carcass.
“Dad realised he had no hope against the nine-foot tiger shark so he let go of the line which was wrapped around our BBQ.
“As you can see, the shark was the winner on this occasion!”
Josh from Byford, Western Australia, said it was great fun at the time, but he recognises it was risky in hindsight.
He added: “You can hear my wife and dad in the background starting to panic a bit when he lost control of the rope,”
“I never really felt like I was at much risk at the time. It was all pretty fun.
“Although, saying that, had someone been caught in a bight of that rope they would have been dragged with the shark and things could have gotten bad fast.”
Thankfully, the BBQ survived and was used soon after to cook some of the same fillets that fed the tiger shark.
“Everybody was pretty excited about the incident and we had a good laugh after,” the man added.
It comes after a spearfisher received the shock of his life after being confronted by a great white shark.
