Men claiming to work for Trump campaign investigated for voter intimidation

Police in the battleground state of Florida investigated two men dressed in security uniforms who claimed they worked for the Trump campaign for potential voter intimidation at an early voting site in St. Petersburg, according to a report.

Team Trump denied it had anything to do with the men.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office launched the probe after it was alerted that two men — one of whom was said to be armed — set up a tent outside the polling facility, WFTS Tampa Bay reported Thursday.

The two men said they were with a private security company and worked for the Trump 2020 campaign.

“These persons claimed or said that they were hired by the Trump campaign, again I’m not going to speculate,” Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections Julie Marcus said. “This was a licensed security company and they were licensed security officers.”

Thea McDonald, deputy national press secretary for Trump 2020, said the campaign had nothing to do with the two guys.

“The campaign did not hire these individuals nor did the campaign direct them to go to the voting location,” McDonald said.

Marcus said voter intimidation “will not be tolerated.”

“We’re going to ensure that our voters feel safe going to vote and cast ballots in this election. There are very specific laws to prevent voter intimidation and it will not be tolerated. This is unacceptable. I have been here for 17 years and I have never seen this happen before,” Marcus said.

Poor weather eventually drove the two men from the polling site.
