'Mesut Ozil is yesterday's news': Kevin Campbell says outcast will never play for Arsenal again

‘Mesut Ozil is yesterday’s news at the club’: Arsenal legend Kevin Campbell insists the £350,000-per-week outcast will NEVER play for the Gunners again

  • Mesut Ozil has been cast aside since Arsene Wenger left Arsenal two years ago
  • Ozil is the highest paid player in the history of Arsenal on £350,000-a-week
  • Mikel Arteta has not handed him one minute of playing time this season
  • He has been omitted from Arsenal’s Europa League squad for upcoming season

Former Arsenal star Kevin Campbell does not believe Mesut Ozil will ever play for the Gunners again.

The German playmaker, who is the club’s highest-paid player on £350,000-per-week, has not featured at all this season and Campbell cannot see that changing.

Speaking about the former Real Madrid star, who has been left out of Arsenal’s Europa League squad this season, Campbell told GentingBet: ‘Mesut Ozil is yesterday’s news at the club.

‘There is no chance that he will feature for Arsenal again this season, or ever again.

‘There have been certain things that have gone on, instances where he has gone against the club, so I don’t see where there is any room for him to come back.’

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger disagreed this week however, contending that Ozil – who is also set to miss out on Mikel Arteta’s Premier League squad – could have a future at the Emirates.

The Frenchman told Der Spiegel: ‘He wasn’t exactly the one with the greatest discipline on the pitch.

‘And playing the game without the ball wasn’t exactly his forte.

‘But you can deal with that if you put some more defensively minded players by his side.

‘The main thing is to get the balance between attack and defence right. Players have lost their technical quality over the past ten years.

‘Athleticism has become more important than technique and decision making.

‘It’s more about physical characteristics and intensity, about explosiveness. And it’s also about being a showman.’
