Dr Rory Cormac, associate professor of international relations at Nottingham University, said: “Bond is linked to British omnipotence and omniscience.
“The image is a great recruitment sergeant as well.” But he added: “A lot of people who want to become Bond get weeded out early as they are psychopaths.”
He also revealed: “When MI6 agents are trying to make contact with people in far-flung countries, they have also been known to be greeted with: ‘Hello, Mr Bond!’ It helps to break the ice.”
