Monty Don kept death of beloved dog secret to film Gardeners' World on same day

“He was a lovely, happy boy. In a way it was very sad, it’s still sad, I miss him, I miss him like mad.

“But, I celebrate. The publication of the book is sort of a celebration of his life along with all the other lives, all the other creatures

“He is buried in the garden and flowers grow on his grave and there are birds singing in the trees above him. He is part of all that world.”

Gardeners’ World airs tonight on BBC Two at 9pm.
