Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman had to answer a call from Mother Nature, but first he needed to get the final two outs in the ninth inning of Saturday’s 2-1 win over the Orioles in 10 frames.
After Chapman retired Renato Nunez for the first out, Aaron Boone and trainer Tim Lentych went to the mound. The visit was brief and Chapman struck out the next two batters.
With his work done, Chapman hurried off the field, went down the dugout steps quickly and into the tunnel that leads to the clubhouse.
So, what was up?
“He is fine. Leave it at that,’’ Boone said.
Then Boone put an end to the mystery.
“Mother Nature calls sometimes,’’ Boone said.
