It’s Mother’s Day in the UK today and 2000 British adults have voted for the nation’s favourite movie mum. According to Showcase Cinemas, our choice is Dame Julie Walters’ Molly Weasley from the Harry Potter movies. Just behind her were Emma Thompson’s Karen from Love Actually and The Addams Family’s Morticia Addams. Here’s the full top 10 below.

1. Molly Weasley, Harry Potter movies
2. Karen, Love Actually
3. Morticia Addams, The Addams Family movies
4. Donna Sheridan-Carmichael, Mamma Mia movies
5. Sarah Connor, Terminator movies
6. Mrs Incredible, The Incredibles movies
7. Amy Mitchell, Bad Moms movies
8. Bambi’s Mothers, Bambi
9. Mrs Jumbo, Dumbo
10. Tess Coleman, Freaky Friday

According to a poll of 2000 UK adults, a line given by Jack Nicholson is Britain’s favourite.

The famous phrase, “Heeere’s Johnny!”, from Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 adaptation of Stephen King’s The Shining came out on top.

Commenting on the research, film journalist Helen O’Hara said: “Some quotes from classic movies have become so embedded in popular culture over many decades that they’ve turned into idioms we all end up using on a regular basis.

Dorothy’s observation that ‘…we’re not in Kansas anymore’ isn’t specific to Oz now. It’s an every day, tongue-in-cheek phrase we’d say to anyone when we experience something new.”
