The Honda Rider was dominant in practice and notching up his 59th MotoGP pole he surpassed the record by Australian Mick Doohan for most premier-class poles.
At the same time the current world champion set a new lap record with 1m 23.027s.
Marquez is more dominant than ever with six wins from 10 starts in 2019 and he has finished in the top two in all races except the Grand Prix of the Americas – where if he had not fallen he would have likely won.
His girlfriend Lucia Rivera finally ended rumours that the two were dating by announcing it publicly last April.
Since then the pair have been pictured regularly together.
She is a keen Instagram user posting plenty of hot pics for her 131,000 followers.
In the last week she has posted several pics of herself by the beach showing off some sexy swimwear.
In one she is wearing a pink bikini that sent fans crazy.
Comments included “gorgeous” and “cutie”.
Lucia has spoken out in the past though against trolls that have criticised her relationship with Marquez.
She wrote: “I am tired of insults to my friends, my family (my grandma, my mum and even my little brother who is six) just because I have a relationship, which of course, has not changed me in any way.
“From now on, I will start to take legal action. I accept criticism, I am open to that but enough with the invented stories that are being labelled at me and my family.
Marquez goes into the Austrian Grand Prix with a 63 point lead over Andrea Dovizioso in the championship.
