Tammy Lawrence-Daley, 51, a mum-of-two from the US state of Delaware, shared the graphic photos of her lying bloodied in a hospital bed after she was savagely beaten.
She said she was set upon by a stranger and brutally attacked while staying at the all-inclusive Majestic Elegance hotel in the resort of Punta Cana.
Lawrence-Daley said on the second night of her stay with her husband and two friends, she went out to get a late-night snack after she couldn’t reach room service.
She said she planned to go to a lounge on the beach, but was set upon on her way back.
Writing on Facebook in a post that went viral, she described hearing “heavy footsteps… one, two, three, four, then they sped up, and then before I could react I was ploughed into from behind and immediately immobilised.”
The terrified woman described how she was attacked before being pulled into a cupboard.
Trying to fight off her attacker, she said he was “too strong”, adding: “The next eight hours brought me pain and fear”.
She went on: “I was strangled multiple times to unconsciousness. My lifeless body was dragged down concrete steps to an underground wastewater area.
“I was kicked in the head, I was beaten with a club.”

After her attacker had finished, she said he dumped her body and left her for dead.
Speaking to US media, she said: “I just remember thinking at that point, I wasn’t going to make it home to see my boys and my husband, that they weren’t gonna find me.”
Lawrence-Daley spent five days at a medical clinic after the attack in January and said she is still dealing with health issues as a result, including nerve damage.
She said her attacker had been wearing a uniform with the resort’s logo on it, but couldn’t identify him.
“We later found out he had a mop from the maintenance room that he broke in half and used that to beat me, like a club,” she said.
Lawrence-Daley said she hopes her story will serve as a warning to others visiting the Dominican Republic.
“It looks like paradise, it feels safe in these areas, there are gates to get in, there’s security everywhere,” she said.
“But it’s not necessarily safe. You have to be aware. You have to be aware of where you are.”
