Naya Rivera's ex-husband 'files wrongful death lawsuit' after actress drowned saving son

Naya Rivera’s ex-husband Ryan Dorsey is said to have filed a “wrongful death lawsuit” on behalf of their five-year-old son Josey. The the 33-year-old actress died earlier this year in a tragic drowning accident when the boat she had hired on Lake Piru in Ventura County, was found floating with the youngster asleep alone inside.

Naya was reported missing on July 8, which sparked a huge manhunt in a search that went viral.

Her body was found on July 13 and cause of death confirmed she had drowned after getting into difficulty in the water.

Now, Ryan is said to be claiming that the boat was “unsafe to be used” in documents obtained by US news outlet TMZ, in a suit claiming that Ventura County is responsible for his ex-wife’s untimely death.

His attorney Amjad Khan has claimed in the documents that the boat was “not equipped with a safely accessible ladder, adequate rope, an anchor, a radio or any security mechanisms to prevent swimmers from being separated from their boats, nor any flotation or lifesaving devices,” which is in violation of California law.

According to the publication, Ryan is also claiming that if the correct safety equipment had been available, the boat would not have been able to have drifted away from the pair while they were in the water swimming.

The suit claims the boat was “rocking back and forth forcefully in the current and wind.”

Ryan also claims that there were no signs warning of the dangerous conditions of the lake and that the person who rented the boat to Naya didn’t warn her to wear the life vest while in the water.

It’s been noted that since the recreational facilities opened at Lake Piru, an estimated 26 people ranging from children to adults, have drowned due to the lake’s trecherous conditions.
