NHS figures show that 140,000 people needing medical help have been left in the lurch.
The record 24,417 were forced to wait in the 12 months to January this year.

Labour’s Shadow Health and Social Care Secretary, Jonathan Ashworth, said: “For even one patient to wait over a year for routine treatment is completely unacceptable.”
The Department of Health and Social Care said: “The NHS is committed to reducing long waiting times.”
