The Andrew Marr Show viewers watched as Shadow Health Secretary Jon Ashworth’s face dropped during the grilling from BBC’s Nick Robinson.
A new review into why Labour lost the election concluded it was a combination of having an unpopular leader in Jeremy Corbyn, a manifesto that many people regarded as a fantasy and a confused message on Brexit.
Mr Ashworth, who was secretly recorded disparaging the party’s efforts during the election campaign, tried to defend his former boss.
He said: “Jeremy Corbyn let me put together a Labour policy that would have

However, Mr Robinson snapped: “It’s not the time to be nice, Jon Ashworth. You’ve had the worst defeat since 1935. It’s time to be candid and brutal, if necessary.
“Say to your party, I was right. I told you then, it was Corbyn and Brexit.”
