Olivier Giroud's agent blasts Lampard for 'unfair' decision to pick Abraham ahead of Frenchman

Olivier Giroud’s agent blasts Frank Lampard for ‘unfair’ decision to pick Tammy Abraham ahead of Frenchman despite ‘what he did at the end of last season’ – as he warns if ‘things continue’ he’ll leave Chelsea in January amid Inter Milan interest

  • Olivier Giroud has fallen down the pecking order at Chelsea this season
  • He almost left last January but revived his Chelsea career at the end of last term
  • Giroud’s agent is furious Frank Lampard is picking Tammy Abraham ahead of him
  • Frenchman has started just one game this term while Abraham has started six
  • He warned Giroud may leave Blues in January amid interest in England and Italy

Olivier Giroud’s agent has blasted Chelsea boss Frank Lampard for ‘unfairly’ picking Tammy Abraham ahead of him – and warned if things don’t change the striker will look to leave in January.

The Frenchman has made just one start under Lampard this season, which came in September’s Carabao Cup defeat against Tottenham, with the Chelsea boss preferring to use Abraham as a secondary option to summer signing Timo Werner.

England international Abraham by contrast has made 12 appearances for the club this term, scoring four goals and Giroud’s agent Michael Manuello said he will consider his options in the next transfer window if his situation remains the same.

GIROUD’S FINE FORM LAST SEASON

Olivier Giroud spent much of last season out of Chelsea’s starting line-up and was mainly reduced to appearances in cup competitions or off the bench.

However, the striker was very impressive for Chelsea towards the end of the season, scoring eight goals in the club’s last 13 Premier League games to help them secure Champions League football.

Talking to FootMercato in France, Manuello said: ‘Effectively, since the start of September, things have changed but what has not changed is his capacity to play matches for France, contrary to what was said by certain others.

‘There have been €150m worth of players bought. But at the same time you’d be blind not to see that Frank Lampard has decided to put Tammy Abraham ahead of him. It is not frankly fair when you look at what Olivier did at the end of the season. But he (Lampard) has the right, it is his choice.

‘So effectively if things continue like this, in December we will find ourselves where we were in December 2019. Things have happened in the last five months. We cannot just look at the last two months and be forgetful about the three years that came before it. But we have to be honest and if this continues, we will have to, first and foremost for him, experience other emotions.’

The France striker turned down moves to Italy last summer after reviving his Chelsea career under Lampard towards the end of last season.

Interest in the 34-year-old is mounting from Italy and rival Premier League sides with his future at Chelsea looking uncertain.

Giroud scored twice for France against Sweden on Tuesday and Inter Milan remain among the clubs monitoring his situation with the striker out of contract next summer.

France boss Didier Deschamps hinted earlier this week that Giroud would need to find a way out of Chelsea in January if hopes to make his Euro 2020 squad.

‘Olivier Giroud knows it – the situation he’s in today cannot drag on forever. Before March he will have to find another situation than this one,’ Deschamps – a former Chelsea midfielder – told French radio station RTL.

‘I never give advice, I give an opinion. At the end of the day, it’s the player’s decision. He has had situations that have sometimes been complicated to deal with.

‘Today, it is not good for him. Will it stay the same or will it improve? It’s up to him. He knows what I think, even if I don’t forget everything he has done and everything he would still be able to do.’
