Oscars 2019 best dressed sees Emilia Clarke and Ashley Graham among the stars to win the red carpet style stakes


EMILIA Clarke, Ashley Graham and Marie Kondo all dressed to impress at the 91st annual Oscars tonight.

The fashion pack descended upon the red carpet at the Dolby Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard, where some entertainment’s biggest names will find out if they have won one of the coveted Academy Awards.

Brit Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke, 32, led the best dressed in a lilac strapless sparkling gown with a flowing train.

She contrasted the custom-made Balmain metallic frock with a red lip and dramatic drop earrings by Niwaka.

Posting on social media ahead of her red carpet appearance, Emilia joked she looked like “a sparkly purple parma violet preened to perfection” – in a nod to the classic British sweet.

Plus-sized supermodel Ashley Graham, 31, dazzled in a black strapless fishtail gown with an asymmetric neckline – which is by designer Zac Posen.

She accessorised her stunning full-length gown with heavy black eye make-up, her hair slicked back in a centre-parted bun and a classic pearl necklace.

She posted a selfie with her eight-strong glam squad on her Insta stories earlier this evening, joking: “It really does take a village!”

Charlize Theron, 43, debuted a new dark hair ‘do at the Awards – in a daring backless dress.

Wearing a blue high-necked gown, and dramatic jewellery, she rocked a red lip and blushed cheeks.

Japan’s queen of clean Marie Kondo, 34, also wowed in a pink bejewelled Jenny Packham gown – one of Kate Middleton’s favourite designers.

It marked the first Academy Awards red carpet for the Tidying Up star – who gushed: “I’m going to the Oscars!” on Instagram yesterday.

Legendary British actress Helen Mirren, 73, looked amazing in a coral and pink gown.

Helen has won an Oscar, three consecutive BAFTAs, two Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe during her impressive career.

While Spider-Man actress Laura Harrier, who stars in the six-times nominated movie BLACKkKLANSMAN!, also looked amazing in a blue bejewelled dress.

The 28-year-old posed on the red carpet – showing off the Louis Vuitton gown’s thigh-high slit and her metallic blue heels.

Singer Jennifer Hudson, who’s performing I’ll Fight at tonight’s ceremony, matched the red carpet in her one-shoulder ruffled gown.

The tune is nominated for Best Original Song, while the movie RBG was highlighted for Best Documentary – Feature.

With a high slit and silver peep-toe heels, the 37-year-old looked suitably glam for the biggest event of the cinema calendar.

Mean Girls star Tina Fey, 48, meanwhile was the belle of the ball in a tulle royal blue gown.

Actress Regina King also looked stunning in a white Oscar de la Renta gown (very fitting) which she paired with a silver clasp bracelet by Chopard jewellers.

The Jerry Maguire actress bagged an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress at last year’s event.

The Oscars is being presented without a host for the first time in 30 years – with a number of celebs ‘guest presenting’ instead.

The Dolby, formerly known as the Kodak Theatre, has hosted every Academy Awards since 2002.

The LA auditorium was designed by American architect David Rockwell, specifically with the Oscars in mind.

The 3,400 capacity building was officially opened on November 9 2001 and cost £72 million ($94m).

The first ever Academy Awards in 1929 were presented at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.

Olivia Colman‘s period comedy-drama The Favourite and Netflix’s black-and-white epic Roma lead this year’s nominations race, with 10 nods each.

The other contenders for gongs include A Star Is Born and Vice with eight each, followed by Black Panther – the first superhero movie ever to be nominated for best picture – with seven.
