THEY say that beauty is pain – and no one knows this more than Glenn Close at this year’s Oscars.

The Academy Awards nominee, 71, has revealed that her stunning golden Carolina Herrera dress – which featured a stunning trailing cape – weighed a staggering 42lbs.

From the way the actress carried herself on the red carpet, you’d never have guess that dragging the spectacular gown was the equivalent of lugging three stone behind her.

She certainly walked the red carpet at the Dolby Theatre in LA in style on Sunday afternoon.

Glenn joked to E! red carpet host Ryan Seacrest about the whopping weight of the dress, and previously admitted she is “intimidated” by the outfit.

The Cut asked the star if she had been lifting weights in order to prepare for wearing the dress to the star-studded event.

She has already been nominated for the award six times, for The World According to Garp, The Big Chill, The Natural, Fatal Attraction, Dangerous Liaisons and Albert Nobbs.

The talented actress already has three Tony Awards, three Golden Globe Awards, three Emmy Awards, and one Screen Actors Guild Award to date.
