PINK poofy layered gowns were the unexpected trend which swept this year’s Oscars red carpet.
But people think they look familiar – and it’s not necessarily for the right reasons.
The princess gowns have been mocked on Twitter for looking like a loofah – aka a pink shower sponge.
Singer Kacey Musgraves, 30, wore a stunning tulle cloud dress by Italian designer Giambattista Valli to the 91st Academy Awards.
While Linda Cardellini, 43, who played the victim’s daughter Chutney in Legally Blonde, and Crazy Rich Asians star Gemma Chan, 36, also donned pink ruffles for the fashionable event.
But, while some compared the stunning stars to Barbie, Villanelle from Killing Eve and Rachel’s bridesmaid dress in Friends, the loofah comparisons were coming in thick and fast.
One viewer joked: “Kacey Musgraves for best loofah”, while a second tweeted: “ANOTHER GLORIOUS PINK LOOFAH”.
A third baffled fan asked: “What’s with all these pink floofy dresses?”
And a fourth said: “I love Kacey Musgraves but she looks like a loofah #oscars”.
One woman asked: Why does everyone look like a pink/red loofah at the Oscars? Here begins my hashtag #womenlookinglikeloofahs”.
While another said the actresses looked like they were “drowning in fabric”.
But others drew different comparisons, with one woman saying: “it looks like the dress code for tonight’s oscars is villanelle”.
