Cane Madden, 29, has been charged with first degree counts of rape, assault and robbery in Louisville, Kentucky.
The victim was found with a fractured skull, multiple cuts and “significant bruising and tearing, indicative of a sexual assault”.
Madden was known to police, having previously been charged with sexual abuse and terroristic treating in 2017.
The courts dismissed the charges this year as they deemed him “incompetent”.
Cops have said Madden confessed to the latest assault after being stopped by police.

Madden was spotted in the area before the horrific attack.
Police then arrested him and he gave an interview with detectives at the Second Division.
He is said to have given “intimate details” of the assault and use of the spade to police.
WDRB also reports he stole the child’s iPad after the horror rape.
Madden remains in Louisville Metro Corrections with a $1 million bond and will appear before the courts later today.
He previously admitted sexually assaulting a victim in 2017 during which he “bit [her] above the left eye, removing a large chunk of the victim’s face.
The perv told cops she would “end up in a body bag” and was charged with first disagree sexual assault.
Charges were dismissed after a judge reviewed six separate reports about Madden’s “intellectual deficits”.
Judge Annie O’Connell wrote: “Mr Madden lacks the intellectual capacity to understand his basic Constitutional rights.”
She also determined that he would be “unlikely to regain competency in the foreseeable future”.
O’Connell concluded that he would not “be able to follow the evidence presented during a trial”.
Locals reacted with fury following the reveal of previous charges against Madden.
Yolanda Walker, President of the neighbourhood’s leadership council, said: “The neighbourhood is hot. They are heated.
“They are heated, because they are just beyond belief.”
“I don’t know if you want to put it on the news, but I’d like to see him castrated.”
Walker added: “How did he get on the street?”
