Zhanna Rasskazova died at her home in Moscow after undergoing detox treatment from a doctor.
The 29-year-old died after she had been partying for an unknown number of days in Russia.
Her friend – named Alexander – said the detox specialist may not have been aware she was on separate medication.
The model, who was also a popular Russian DJ, had appeared in Playboy and FHM.
Reports say the socialite had been partying “for several days” and then called a doctor from her private clinic to treat her at home.
“She was a regular, beautiful, self-confidant and very talented woman”
Alexander said the model – a former Playboy Playmate of the Month – was put on a drip and fell asleep.
The medic left but told him and a female friend of Zhanna’s not to leave her alone.
Alexander later woke her, saying she had been “breathing in a strange way”, according to a report by Moskovsky Komsomolets newspaper.
She got up to go to the kitchen but she “she started choking and passed out” in front of her friends.
They called an ambulance but paramedics failed to save her.
Reports say doctors fear an “incompatible medicine” may have caused her condition.
Detectives are carrying out a preliminary check into the death of the model and DJ who was originally from Kyiv.
REN TV reports she died over a drug overdose.
Zhanna is understood to have been receiving vitamins and minerals in the IV treatment, which is popular with celebrities.
Paintings sit with an IV bag delivering the concoction directly into their blood.
Clinics offering the treatment boast that it can help beat hangovers, stave off illness and provide healthier skin.
X-Factor star Simon Cowell has previously admitted undergoing a weekly vitamin IV.
Her pal Alexey Chernorot said she was a “regular, beautiful, self-confidant and very talented woman” – and hit back any suggestion of an OD.
Zhanna regularly performed as a DJ in Russia and had released several albums and mixes.
She reportedly hoped to expand her modelling and music career by moving to Britain.
The model was also a petrolhead, being the owner over a Lamborghini Aventador and BMW X6.
