Reliant Robin enthusiast pulled over by police was told to stop driving the vehicle he had painstakingly turned into a police car.

Graham Robinson, 52, spent the last seven months and £3,000 giving the three-wheeler motor a new lease of life – including installing a fully functional flashing light and siren.

However, last week Mr Robinson was pulled over by Lancashire Police officers after he took the eye-catching motor out for a ride.

Officers told Mr Robinson that he shouldn’t use the Reliant for daily use but could take it out for special occasions.

Although he was warned he must take the blue flashing light off when on the road to stop the vehicle from resembling a police car.

The Preston-based bar worker said: “I got stopped by the police and the traffic officers questioned it.

“But while I was there about five people pulled up to take pictures and the police realised it was being done in the fun context that it is.

That same evening a sergeant from Lancashire Police visited Mr Robinson at home to check the car out himself.

“He said he couldn’t believe how good it is,” explained Mr Robinson, who added: “he’d never seen anything like it before.”
