“Even if it’s for procreation, you want your kid to be conceived by a lame f***?”

Andy Zane

To many people, porn is a gateway into experiencing the sexual fantasies they crave – from threesomes, sex with gorgeous women or obscure kinks to name but a few.

Many, if only out of curiosity, have even dreamt about what it would be like to be surrounded by stunning naked people graphically having sex just inches away.

This is the raunchy world Andy Zane, 31, has lived and breathed for years.

But, the multiple-award-winning director has also built a solid following on social media by sharing some laugh-out-loud moments from life on set.

In one of his most popular posts – one that netted him 14K likes and 4K retweets – the LA-based director takes a bite out of a donut while filming before sharing it with male performer Tommy Pistol as he’s having sex with star Audrey Noir on a sofa.

The clip then ends with music from the end credits of cringe comedy Curb Your Enthusiasm fading in as the shot stays on Audrey’s shocked face.

Despite working in the multi-billion dollar industry, Andy’s path into the world of porn was nothing out of the ordinary – having applied for a job ad to work behind the scenes with adult film juggernauts Ryan and Kelly Madison for $16 (£12) p/h.

After hitting it off with the married pair, Andy – then 24 – revealed he didn’t get behind the camera or see a naked person for about year and instead he said his “ill-informed preconceptions” were smashed after getting to know performers as “sweet, amazing and real people”.

But, when the big day came to get behind the camera Andy admitted he started blushing – despite having edited hardcore scenes for months.

He told Daily Star Online: “I was really nervous because I wasn’t entirely sure how my body or brain was going to react to filming people having sex after editing so much content for so long.

“I realised that it kind of desensitised me so I was still a little nervous and blushing but it went well. It really wasn’t unlike filming anything else except there were naked people involved.

“More than anything, what I enjoyed about the experience was the openness to sexuality and how it was treated so naturally.”

Andy continued: “We were all making jokes and laughing as two naked people were graphically having sex in front of me. It was kind of freeing because I didn’t grow up like that and I enjoyed being around people who were comfortable in their own skin.”

After getting more comfortable behind the camera Andy has gone on to win numerous awards for his directing, but many have grown to know him after following him on Twitter.

Explaining why he’s become so popular Andy said: “Honestly, I think it’s because I’ve grown a bit jaded to the industry and I’ve made a joke out of something that most people would consider a pretty silent topic.

“I see people retweeting things and captioning things like ‘Sorry for the NSFW content, but this is just too funny!’.

“We live in a society where people have to apologise for liking sex and that’s a really weird way to look at something that is literally the reason we’re all here. It’s like ‘Someone had sex, therefore you exist, but don’t talk about it because it’s wrong’.

“So I think when people see my kind of unapologetic and faux-apathetic humour towards the job, it kind of opens something that they’re not used to. People don’t really think to laugh during sex.

“They kind of uncomfortably laugh about it, but it’s always a shamefully hidden perversion and people forget that it’s really about having a good time.

He continued: “Even if it’s for procreation, you want your kid to be conceived by a lame f***? They’re probably gonna be a lame kid – There’s no science to prove that, but I’m mad about people having bad sex”.

Andy has since spoken frankly about people having healthy sex and in his own projects, including interviewing adult film stars about life in the industry, which he said was one of his favourite experiences.

He continued: “Either that experience or every time I get to do a Halloween-themed horror shoot with Tommy Pistol. We always do crazy, elaborate intros and fit a horror movie into five to 10 minutes.”

Despite having gone on to win coveted awards in the industry and having a horde of fans on Twitter Andy admitted he couldn’t share his achievements with most of his family.

Andy said: “Truth be told. I don’t speak to my family, but not because of the industry – just because we don’t get along. The only person in my family I still have in my life is one of my younger brothers.

“He knew I was going in for that job and he supported it and just said ‘hey man, work is work. As long as you’re OK and not hurting anyone, what doing it matter?’”

While Andy is passionate about the industry and showing the true side of porn stars when the cameras are switched off, he predicts adult entertainment could see a decline.

With so much porn being available for free, independent and even some major studios are seeing less revenue – despite more and more people watching it than ever before.

This mass availability also concerns Andy, who feels newer niches to make porn more interactive – namely with VR sets and “fleshlights” – that could actually make people more sexually reclusive.

He said: “It makes me kind of sad to know that people aren’t experiencing each other in beautiful intimate ways. There is something that I’m very happy about though and that’s pornography is starting to become more creative and artistic, where it actually leans into the fact that it’s meant to be a fantasy.

“Just understanding that it’s a movie and that these people are essentially sex stunt performers is something I wish people would grasp more instead of trying to mimic what they see on their screens.”
