Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have taken on a number of royal roles since their wedding.

While also having their first child Archie Harrison they have also taken on a number of royal tours.

Most recently they appeared on the red carpet for the London premiere of The Lion King.

The British public are used to seeing Harry at royal events with his family, such as his brother Prince William, 37, and his father Prince Charles, 70.

How do “red carpet Harry” and “royal Harry” differ?

A body language expert Judi James gave Express.co.uk their expert analysis.

Red carpet Harry

Judi said: “Harry’s body language signals suggest he’s fully tuned into his new celebrity status, looking confident, relaxed and rather dashing as he walks the red carpet with Meghan.”

In his role with his wife the royal takes the lead, she notes, adding: “It’s interesting that he seems to be happy to take the lead here too, despite the fact that the Hollywood lifestyle is much more Meghan’s habitat than his.

“Harry the star appears to be enjoying himself enormously here and is in the kind of extrovert, fun form that he was always known for. His jacket is undone, his chest splayed and – with Meghan’s hand clasped in one hand the other hangs relaxed with no sign of the kind of anxiety touches he has been using recently.”

Meghan and Harry’s brand as an A-list power couple is strong and seems to be something Harry enjoys.

“His smile rounds his cheeks to pull his face into a heart shape, which suggests a congruent and slightly naughty sense of fun,” Judi said.

“Meghan beams at him in what looks like approval of this much more animated style and the way he engages and chats to the fans suggests he’s loving being half of an A-list power couple.

“The hand clasp between their bodies involves curled-in fingers to signal strong bonds of affection and overall their balanced and mirrored body language rituals make them look like-minded and synchronised here.”

Royal Harry

Harry is different with his family, Judi claims. She said: “Although Harry can adopt star status on the red carpet with Meghan his body language seems to drop down the status ranks when he attends royal events.

“He’s appeared a lot more introverted since those rumours of a rift with William, often standing in ‘best behaviour’ mode with his hands clasped in front of his torso.

“With his father Charles he adopts a more low-key and respectful look with a tentative-looking hands clasp and his brows often puckered into a frown, and as he talks to William his eyes are rounded and serious-looking.

“When he’s with the other royals Harry can often adopt the rather sober and responsible-looking air of a man with a new family but with Meghan on the red carpet we can see his energetic, fun and much more youthful side emerge.”

Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton supported Harry and William at the polo recently.

However, while Kate looked “happy” Meghan showed “glances of what looked like anxiety”.

Body language expert Judi James said: “With three small children to amuse and herd around and with Louis now hugely active walking about on his own, Kate – like most mothers of toddlers – looks totally absorbed in her role of protector and entertainer-in chief.

“‘Relaxed’ probably isn’t the word for her body language here but she looks happy but mindful as she tries to keep her eye on George and Charlotte while holding onto a wriggling Louis.”

New mother Meghan, on the other hand, looks concerned with the new addition to her family.

Who is Meghan Markle? Quick profile

Meghan Markle was born Rachel Meghan Markle, on August 4, 1981 to parents Doria Ragland and father Thomas Markle.

Her father was previously married to Roslyn Loveless and Meghan has two elder half sibling – sister Samantha Markle and brother Thomas Markle Junior.

Actress

Meghan’s first television appearance in the USA was in an episode of the medical drama General Hospital in 2002.

She later moved on to roles in CSI, Without a Trace and Castle along with bit parts in Hollywood films including Get Him to the Greek, Remember Me and Horrible Bosses.

Meghan was also a “briefcase girl” on Deal or No Deal – but her most famous role was as Rachel Zane in legal drama Suits, which launched in 2011.

She was written out in the finale of the seventh series when her character got married, which aired in April 2018 – just before she got married herself.

Charity and humanitarian work

Meghan Markle’s career in television has gone hand-in-hand with her support for causes close to her heart.

She wrote about the stigma around menstrual health in an article for Time magazine and was a Global Ambassador for World Vision Canada – with whom she travelled to Rwanda for the charity’s Clean Water Campaign.

And her commitment to gender equality has seen her work with the United Nations – receiving a standing ovation in 2015 for her speech to mark International Women’s Day.

Relationships

In September 2011, she wed film producer Trevor Engelson, who she began dating in 2004.

But the pair divorced two years later in August 2013, citing irreconcilable difference.

She was in a relationship with celebrity chef Cory Vitiello for almost two years, before they broke it off in 2016 but the two remain good friends.

And in June 2016, she met Prince Harry on a blind date set up by a mutual friend.

Their relationship began in October that year and just over one year later, on November 27, 2017, the pair announced their engagement.

They married on May 19, 2018 at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.

Meghan’s heritage

Some have claimed Meghan Markle is the first mixed-race member of the Royal Family.

Historians are still arguing about Queen Charlotte, the wife of King George III.

But Meghan will be the first royal to openly embrace a mixed-race heritage.

She has written about the difficulties of being a biracial actress in Hollywood as she claims she is not black enough for some roles and not white enough for others.
