Prince Harry’s spending helped spark Prince William fall-out – shock claim

Prince Harry ramped up his spending as Meghan Markle’s due date was nearing, an investigative book looking into the split between the Cambridges and the Sussexes has claimed. This alleged change of habit by the Duke of Sussex is one of the key reasons behind the rift, Dylan Howard and Andy Tillett, authors of Royals At War, wrote.

They say the once enthusiastic pub-goer Prince Harry turned yoga obsessed after meeting the Duchess of Sussex in 2016.

And, along with Meghan, he forked out large sums on a showbiz lifestyle, clashing with the image set out by other senior royals – including the ever-modest Queen.

This new spending led to concerns in the Royal Household, the book to be published by Skyhorse Publishing added.

The authors said: “Harry’s transformation is revealed as one of the fundamental factors behind the deep fissure that opened between him and his brother, Prince William.”

Among the spending listed by the book’s authors are acupuncture sessions, aromatherapy, massages, maternity clothes and the renovation of Frogmore Cottage.

Prince Harry reportedly started to change from his old lifestyle in preparation for his wedding in May 2018.

A few days after Meghan and Harry’s nuptials at St George’s Chapel in Windsor, the Times reported claims Harry “was keen to try acupuncture as part of a recent health drive”.

The report added that in early 2018 he had started to reduce his alcohol consumption and hit the exclusive KX gym in Chelsea, west London.

The Times claimed both the Duke and the Duchess had started attending regular sessions at popular acupuncturist Ross Barr.

A 45-minute session at the celebrity acupuncturist cost between £90 and £120.

Acupuncture is just one of the expenses cited by the Royals At War authors.

And according to a Sun article published in April 2019, the practice may have cost as much as £6,200 over the months Meghan and Harry lived together in England.

Among Prince Harry and Meghan’s expenses before the birth of Archie Harrison there is also the widely reported ‘babymoon’.

Meghan and Harry were said to have enjoyed a three-night stay at Heckfield Place, a luxury spa in Hampshire.

Rooms at the lavish hotel can cost up to £10,000-a-night.

The Sussexes’ break may have cost up to £33,000, according to The Sun report, after taking into account additional costs for their protection officers’ stay and the possible choice to undertake natural treatments and holistic wellness practices while in Hampshire.

Ahead of Archie’s birth, the cost of Meghan’s maternity wardrobe was put under the spotlight by sources to the book.

These included outfits worn during royal visits and the tour of Australia in October.

In June 2019, fashion search engine Love the Sales said Meghan wore 77 outfits in public between October and March 2019, when the Duchess was on her maternity leave. The clothes were said to cost a total of £478,920.

Among the outstanding outfits worn by the Duchess are both designer brands and high street fashion items.

In February, during her visit to Morocco, Meghan wore a golden Dior gown.

But a month earlier, on January 16, she donned a £25 H&M maternity frock to visit one of her patronages, Mayhew.

Most notably amongst the spending claims, ahead of the birth of Archie, Meghan and Harry spent £2.3million on renovating Frogmore Cottage, the home in Windsor given to the couple by the Queen.

Their UK base was equipped with a yoga studio, screening room, a huge kitchen and walk-in closets – renovation works funded by the Sovereign Grant.

But after their decision to step down as senior royals and move to LA, the Sussexes agreed with the Queen they would repay the cost of the renovation works in their Windsor home.

Following Archie’s birth, Meghan and Harry came under fire for choosing to travel to Ibiza and Nice using private jets while calling for a greener world and the reduction of the human race’s carbon emissions.

At a press conference in The Netherlands, at which he launched a platform for sustainable tourism, Travalyst, Prince Harry defended his decision to use private jets for his holidays to protect the privacy of his family, adding he flies commercial flights “99 percent of the time”.

It was later revealed singer Elton John provided the Sussexes with his private jet for their trip to France.

Kensington Palace did not comment on the claims made in Royals At War.

Royals at War will be available online and nationwide on July 15.
