The Queen “loved tucking into Fray Bentos pies on long-haul flights”, her former pilot has revealed.
Her Majesty apparently couldn’t resist some old fashioned comfort food whenever she took to the skies.
Despite have the best chefs in the world, and all the food options you could dream of, a tinned pie was top of the Queen’s list.
According to Her Maj’s former pilot, she would happily chow down on the value grub on flights in the 90s.
Other Royal Family members would also consume the humble tinned pie, too.
Appearing on a Channel 5 documentary, Graham Laurie said: “Do you know, they used to love it.
“I think it’s such a lovely change from all that fancy food which comes first class!”
The pilot didn’t reveal exactly what flavour Fray Bentos pie the Queen preferred.
But the iconic British brand is famous for its Steak and Kidney, Minced Beef and Onion and Chicken and Bacon pies.
The pie is hugely popular due to its long shelf-life and cheap £2.50 price-tag.
The Fray Bentos brand was founded in 1865 and was named after a cow-rearing city in Uruguay.
After the second world war, the pies became a staple in British homes and the brand moved their manufacturer to the London Borough of Hackney.
The brand is now, however, based in King’s Lynn, Norfolk, which isn’t too far from the Queen’s home in Sandringham.
