Queen shock: Her Majesty ‘not concerned’ with Meghan Markle’s US election interventions

Meghan Markle issued a rallying cry to her fellow Americans to vote in the upcoming US election race between Donald Trump and Democrat nominee and former vice-president Joe Biden. The Duchess of Sussex said voting on November 3 was “exceptionally important” in order to “see the change that we all need and deserve”.

Grant Harrold, who worked a butler for the Royal Family for seven years, claimed since Meghan and Harry had stepped away from their senior royal roles the Duchess’s intervention into politics would not have worried the Queen.

The former royal butler told Express.co.uk: “I believe that the Queen would not be concerned either way, as they have stepped down from the Royal family to pursue their own life and careers.

“So she would most likely say this is a personal decision and it is up to her to do as she pleases.”

Meghan and Harry are currently living in Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, and Mr Harrold expects the Duchess – who retained her US citizenship – to cast her ballot in the election.

Following Meghan and Harry’s decision to exit the firm at the end of March, the royal commentator added the 39-year-old would also be able to go further and endorse a candidate.

Mr Harrold said: “I am sure Meghan will vote in the upcoming elections by how we have seen her urging everyone else to do so.

“However, who she chooses to vote for will obviously be down to her preference.

“As a royal, this would have been unthinkable but as they have stepped away from that life she would be able to support a candidate for president.”

The polls between the Republican Trump and Democrat Biden continue to narrow ahead of election day.

Mr Harrold insists any public backing from Meghan would “without question highlight that candidate”, but he is unconvinced it to sway voters for either man to secure the keys to the White House.

The royal expert added: “Due to the high profile that Meghan now holds, any endorsement would without question highlight that candidate with such a high profile supporter.

“Because that’s what community is all about and that’s specifically what this election is all about.

“We’re only 75 days away from election day and that is so very close, and yet there’s so much work to be done in that amount of time, because we all know what’s at stake this year.

“I know it, I think all of you certainly know if you’re here on this fun event with us, then you’re just as mobilised and energised to see the change that we all need and deserve.”
