President Donad Trump is virtually tied with Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., former Vice President Joe Biden, and former Rep. Beto O’Rourke in Texas, according to the latest poll from Quinnipiac University.

In head-to-head matchups, Trump barely beat out those three potential challengers, but performed better against Sens. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro.

  • Trump 47 percent, Biden 46 percent
  • Trump 47 percent, Sanders 45 percent
  • Trump 47 percent, O’Rourke 46 percent
  • Trump 46 percent, Castro 41 percent
  • Trump 48 percent, Harris 41 percent
  • Trump 48 percent, Warren 41 percent

“The 2020 presidential race in Texas, and how some Democrats stack up against President Donald Trump, begins as a two-tiered contest. There are three more well-known contenders who run evenly against President Donald Trump. Another group, less well-known, are just a little behind Trump,” said Quinnipiac University Poll assistant director Peter A. Brown.

“Former Vice President Joe Biden has the highest favorability of any of the contenders and has a better net favorability than President Trump,” he added. “Former U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke also does relatively well on favorability and in a matchup with Trump, but that may well be due to O’Rourke being a home-state favorite.

Quinnipiac also polled favorability ratings for Trump and the possible Democratic nominees in 2020. Trump is more disliked than liked with 47 percent favorable, 49 percent unfavorable, while Biden is the most liked with 48 percent favorable, 38 percent unfavorable.

Quinnipiac surveyed 1,222 voters in Texas from Feb.y 20-25, with a margin of error of 3.4 percentage points.
