Movies are growing in their runtimes and cinemagoers often expect to be in their seats for almost three hours to see any given film. The recent epic Avengers: Endgame just topped three hours, while fellow musical-biopic Bohemian Rhapsody was two hours and 13 minutes. But where does a musical biopic like Rocketman fall on the spectrum? Read on to find out.
How long is Rocketman?
Rocketman, the Elton John biopic, clocks in at two hours and one minute.
Paramount Pictures calls Rocketman: “An epic musical fantasy about the uncensored human story of Sir Elton John’s breakthrough years.”
The film tells Elton John’s life story, beginning with his early years in Pinner, Middlesex, as a prodigy at the Royal Academy of Music.
The biopic also touches on his influential and enduring musical partnership with lyricist Bernie Taupin, as well as his struggles with depression, substance abuse and acceptance of his sexual orientation.
Unlike Bohemian Rhapsody, Rocketman tells John’s story in flashbacks as opposed to chronologically in ‘present’ day.
The flashbacks also contain staged musical numbers of Elton’s songs, as imagined in his head during pivotal moments in his life.
