The Princess of Wales endured a difficult union with Prince Charles, with their marriage played out in the glare of the public eye. Throughout their relationship, allegations of infidelity on both sides plagued the couple, but none more so than Charles’ affection towards Camilla. Rumours would continually circulate surrounding the couple and eventually they would divorce in 1996.
But in one heartbreaking moment, Diana opted to question her husband about photographs of Camilla during their honeymoon.
Writing in ‘Diana – Her True Story’ in 1992, author Andrew Morton exposed the encounter and the impact it had on the Princess.
He observed: “The ever-present shadow cast by Camilla merely served to throw fuel on the flames. Reminders were everywhere.
“On one occasion they were comparing engagements in their respective diaries when two photographs of Camilla fell out from the pages of Charles’ diary.
“Amid the tears and the angry words, she pleaded with him to be honest about how he felt about her and Camilla.
“The words fell on deaf ears.”
The pair married in a union witnessed by millions of people from across the Commonwealth.
Street parties and other events were organised to coincide with the wedding, which experts say was one of the biggest moments in the 20th century for the Royal Family.

Speaking on the documentary expert Katie Nicholl said: “There’s one really moving story when Diana was in tears in her bathroom and William was pushing tissues under the door because he could hear her crying.”
Jennie Bond, who is an ex-BBC royal correspondent, also reflected on a similar episode where William would act motherly towards a saddened Diana.
She said that William would say: “It’ll be alright Mummy, it’ll be alright, I’ll look after you.”
She added: “It was all the wrong way round for William.
“He was having to comfort his mother when she should have been looking after him, he was just a little boy.”
