Ryan Giggs believes Manchester United want Alex Telles to mirror Liverpool’s attacking full-backs.

The Old Trafford legend, now Wales boss, thinks his old side are keen to copy their rivals’ blueprint for success out wide with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson so integral to Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Telles joined United from Porto for £15.4million where he had racked up 26 goals and 57 assists, incredible output from a defensive player.

‘Telles, I think that’s something we’ve been missing’, Giggs told the Webby & O’Neill YouTube channel.

‘You look at Liverpool, Trent and Robertson – the goals and assists that they provide.

‘Now, full-backs have to have that in their armour. If the wingers are coming in, the full-backs have to create the width and make goals.’

Alexander-Arnold has 36 assists in 140 Liverpool games and Robertson is on 32 from 134.

Telles started for United at wing-back in their impressive 2-1 win over PSG in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

And in the BT Sport studio, Owen Hargreaves felt that would be the best position for the Brazilian to thrive.

‘He is a good player, a great attacking player,’ he said.

‘He gets assists, works up and down – he’s probably more suited to playing as a wing-back because defensively he’s not great.

‘In terms of assists, his numbers are off the charts. He’s great on set pieces, he’s a good addition to United, a modern full-back.’
