Simple car insurance hack could save you over £1,000 off your cover

Car insurance is one of the most expensive aspects of ownership for most drivers in the UK. Renewing your insurance is a day often loathed as a hefty bill is often required to pay. Motorists may be aware that automatically renewing their insurance bill could end up costing them hundreds of pounds more each year. Drivers may not be aware that when they renew their insurance can dramatically affect how much they pay.

According to MoneySavingExpert Martin Lewis has revealed that your best bet was to renew 21 days before your policy runs out.

The MoneySavingExpert.com ran a test in 2018 which found the cheapest time to renew their car insurance.

Around 18 million quotes were analysed and it found that the best time to renew as 21 days before the end of your policy.

In a weekly blog, it revealed that the three-week tip actually works and has saved several customers large amounts of money.

One man managed to save over £1,000 on his insurance bill by following the tip.

He took to Twitter to share his joy saying: “Took your advice and got a car insurance renewal quote 21 days before renewal and saved over £1,000! Thank you.” 

“Took your 21-day advice. Was paying £148/mth, now £68/mth [saving £960/yr],” said another customer.

Martin Lewis commented on his post saying: “It’s a year since we revealed the best time to get car insurance is about three weeks before renewal, following a major investigation of 18m+ quotes. And we’ve been inundated with successes since.”
