In a furious outburst at Boris Johnson, the SNP’s Westminster leader called the Prime Minister a “liar” and a “charlatan” as the pair clashed over the latest Government’s plan to revisit the Brexit withdrawal agreement. But Ian Blackford was forced to withdraw his insults as Speaker of the House Lindsay Hoyle scolded the Scottish politician in a humiliating slapdown.
The Speaker said: “I’m sure that the leader of the SNP would like to withdraw that last comment of being a liar.
“No Honourable Member would do that.
“Would you please withdraw?”
As the SNP politician attempted to justify his outburst, Speaker Hoyle added: “Mr Blackford, you’re a respected member of this House.
“You’ll do the right thing by this House and I’ve accepted that you’ve withdrawn it.”
