Sophie, Countess of Wessex's secret fashion hack to 'make wardrobe more interesting'

Since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced they were moving away from senior Royal Family duties, the spotlight has focused on other Windsors, with the likes of Beatrice and Eugenie taking on more roles. But among the other royals to take centre stage are the likes of Sophie, who joined the Firm back in 1999 following her wedding to the Queen’s youngest son Prince Edward. The royals are heavily scrutinised, with everything from their mannerisms to their wardrobe assessed by a plethora of experts, and the public.

And Sophie appears to already be a darling of those experts, especially after she created a stunning look that sparked new life into an otherwise usual outfit.

According to Hello!’s beauty and fashion editor Laura Sutcliffe, Sophie “pulled out all the stops” by creating a stunning look when wearing a simple puffer jacket.

Earlier this year, the Countess of Wessex visited a hockey training session at Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre, in Buckinghamshire, where she watched players carry out the sport.

But according to Ms Sutcliffe, Sophie “dazzled onlookers in a gunmetal grey puffer coat, which she paired with green tailored trousers”.

Ms Sutcliffe said: “Sounds quite simple, right? Well, the 54-year-old made the look her own by adding a leather belt which she wore over the belt and a pair of suede Mary Jane high heels by Penelope Chilvers.

“These two accessories made the look appear more feminine and dressy. Doesn’t she look great?”

Sophie’s daughter Lady Louise Windsor joined her mother at the event and was given the chance to show off her skills with the hockey stick as she practised passing and striking the ball with members of the women’s team.

Ms Sutcliffe added of Louise’s style: “The teenager dressed for the occasion in a sporty navy sweatshirt, teamed with pink cropped trousers and white trainers.

Princess Eugenie also joined the crusade after she announced before her wedding 2018 that the ceremony and reception would be plastic-free.

Speaking in the same year to Vogue, Eugenie said: “At the moment I’m picking up the mantle of anti-plastics, so I work with Project Zero which has just partnered with Sky Ocean Rescue.

“Together, they’re trying to end single-use plastic.

“My whole house is anti-plastic now. Jack and I want our wedding to be like that as well – we’ve got to look after this planet.”

The main issue surrounding plastics is that it emits methane, which contributes to the greenhouse effect.

In July of that year, Eugenie was made the Ambassador of Project Zero, which is bidding to restore the planet’s oceans and protect all of its inhabitants.
