Sophie Wessex has royal fans in stitches as she makes surprising joke during farm visit

The royal has been a long standing supporter of agriculture. She is also an outstanding supporter of charities ranging from the Disability Initiative in Surrey as well as national charities such as the NSPCC.

Sophie, 55, had recently visited the New Forest Fruit Company farm, where she had learned about sustainable farming.

Her visit came as part of her role as a patron of LEAF Farming, a charity delivering more sustainable food and farming.

The farm shared some picture of the Countess’ visit, saying it was “a real honour and privilege” to host her.

They tweeted: “Countess of Wessex very much enjoyed picking her own berries.

“After the visit she commented that she had ‘eaten her weight in fruit’.”

Fans appeared to be delighted by her joke as they commented underneath the post.

Appearing to be amused, one replied: “We did the same on Tuesday!”

Another added: “What a lovely visitor, The Countess of Wessex.”

Her visit came last Thursday, and picture showed her enjoying chats with the farm workers.

She was dressed plainly in a white shirt, a snug grey jumper and brown jeans during her visit.

The New Forest Fruit Company was just a shirt drive from her Bagshot Hall home.

She was also seen enjoying the fish produce, and was pictured snacking on some raspberry’s grown at the farm.

Her visit to the farm came days after a royal expert hailed Sophie as a “royal key worker”.

Sophie has been at the forefront of the Royal Family’s response to the current global crisis, and quietly volunteered for a series of causes during the pandemic.

Joe Little, managing editor of Majesty, who gave her that title, commented: “She is making a difference in a very understated, very “Sophie” way.”

Peregrine Armstrong-Jones, of Bentley’s Entertainment, also told PEOPLE magazine of Sophie: “There’s no fanfare.

“These are private visits done in her own private time.

“When she leaves our kitchens, she generally then goes on to do more projects in different hospitals.”

A friend added that Sophie has always been quietly active in community roles.

They said: “She was brought up by her parents and there was going to be no free ride in her family.

“She wasn’t born to be the eldest daughter of a duke and duchess and find a marvellous marriage and polish her tiaras.”
