During the closing scenes of Avengers Endgame, a much older Steve Rogers passed on his shield to Falcon, making him the new Captain America. While Marvel fans were expected to see Sam Wilson’s Cap debut in Marvel Phase 4, it turns out he almost cameoed in Spider-Man Far From Home – the last film in the Infinity Saga. Speaking with Comic Book, producer Eric Carroll revealed: “We briefly talked about bringing in Falcon as Captain America at the end, like maybe once Peter’s arced, and he’s sort of like leading the team like maybe he calls in a favour. But we also thought it was really important to the arc of this movie that there not be other Avengers available to Nick Fury or Peter, so he’d have to step up and do it himself.”
While the news might disappoint fans, Sam Wilson’s Cap will no doubt appear in an MCU movie at some point over the next couple of years.
Similarly, other Avengers like Thor, Doctor Strange and Captain Marvel are only mentioned in passing rather than actually appearing, as the focus is truly on Spider-Man and his relationship with Iron Man.
Marvel boss Kevin Feige said: “Ultimately, Spider-Man: Far From Home is Spider-Man’s journey, whether any other heroes appear in it or not.
“It’s all about Peter stepping up, and Peter getting out of the shadow, not just of Tony but of the Avengers in general.”
CAPTAIN AMERICA SHIELD PLOT HOLE? DIRECTORS SPEAK OUT
Feige added: “Because by the way, he’s Spider-Man. He doesn’t need to be in the shadow of the Avengers.
“So other than Maria, and Nick, and Happy, and the emotional presence of Tony… You hear, he asks about Thor.
“He asks about Doctor Strange and Captain Marvel.”
Meanwhile, Bucky had something of a cameo in Spider-Man Homecoming.
The clue comes in the form of actor Kenneth Choi, who plays Principal Morita. He also played Jim Morita, a member of the Howling Commandos in Captain America: The First Avenger.
In the scene of Spider-Man Homecoming where Peter Parker is in Principal Morita’s office, you can see a picture of Jim in his WW2 army uniform behind the desk.
Presumably, the principal is a descendant, possibly even the son or grandson of Jim.
Now next to that is a photograph of the Howling Commandos, which includes none other than Bucky Barnes himself – before he was frozen for the first time and turned into the Winter Soldier.
Spider-Man Far From Home will be released in UK cinemas on July 2, 2019.
