Steph told fans she has covered up a previous tattoo on Instagram Stories yesterday.

The black and white tattoo shows a woman holding a book and a glass of wine.

It reads: “With every drop I drank. My tears refilled the glass. Staring into abyss. I died and rose again.”

The tattoo meaning no doubt holds a special one for Steph, who wrote alongside the snap: “Fresh meaningful ink and cover up by the amazing @robertnolan100tattoo.”

Stephanie, who plays Sinead O’Connor in the Channel 4 soap, previously revealed she tried to take her own life at the height of her alcohol addiction.

She went to rehab for three months following the breakdown of her relationship to Jeremy McConnell – the father of her son Caben-Albi – and managed to get her life back on track.

She told OK! at the time: “I’m an alcoholic. Going to rehab saved my life.

“I took an overdose while I was still with Jeremy.”

She credited son Caben, who’s now two-years-old, for saving her.

Steph added: “Although I look after him, he’s looked after me more than he knows.

“If it wasn’t for him I would have been dead and buried a long time ago. I was so suicidal, but he kept me going.

“He’s my little angel and I’ll be honest with him about everything. I’m proud of my journey and I’m glad that I’m an addict because the programme makes you a better person.”

The actress, who split from boyfriend Owen Warner in September, has spoken openly about her battles with mental health.

Last month, she shared an emotional poem about staring death in the eye and feeling helpless online.

The poem read: “When you’ve looked death in the eyes, nothing ever feels the same. How do you describe that crying side from the screaming inside of your brain?

“When I was asked how to describe it, the only thing I could say, staring into the abyss, someone’s flicked off a switch, no more light and no more bright days.”
