Steve Irwin fans blast PETA after animal rights group’s ‘insensitive’ attack on tragic Crocodile Hunter on what would have been his 57th birthday

STEVE Irwin’s fans have blasted PETA after the animal rights organisation attacked the late Crocodile Hunter in a series of “insensitive” tweets on what would have been his 57th birthday.

PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), condemned Google’s decision to create a Google Doodle celebrating his birthday, sending triggered fans into a raging frenzy.

In a Tweet posted to their 1.06million followers, they said: “#SteveIrwin was killed while harassing a ray; he dangled his baby while feeding a crocodile & wrestled wild animals who were minding their own business.

“Today’s #GoogleDoodle sends a dangerous, fawning message. Wild animals are entitled to be left alone in their natural habitats.

“Steve Irwin’s actions were not on target with his supposed message of protecting wildlife. A real wildlife expert & someone who respects animals for the individuals they are leaves them to their own business in their natural homes.

“It is harassment to drag exotic animals, including babies taken from their mothers, around from TV talk shows to conferences & force them to perform as Steve Irwin did.

“Animals deserve to live as they want to, not as humans demand––the #GoogleDoodle should represent that.”

PETA’s tweet did not receive the reaction it was hoping for, as thousands of people took to Twitter to express their anger towards the animal protection charity.

Internet celebrity KSI took the first leap, and tweeted: “Just shut the f*** up”.

Zack Borstein then tweeted: “PETA is an embarrassment ti animal rights”.

Another Twitter user said:”Thanks for bringing people closer together in our mutual hate of you! Not sure that’s what you intended but the result is very amusing!

“Also you’re the worst pls close your business down.”

Tweets kept flooding in and many followers began to see PETA in another light.

One person wrote:”I supported @peta with a fixed amount of money every month.

“That was until I read this tweet.”

Another wrote: “I don’t think I’ve ever seen a ratio as bad as @peta on #SteveIrwin. Like wow. He was one of the most recognized wildlife conservationists in the world, and Peta euthanizes 81% of the animals in its shelters? Hypocrites.”

However while the negative comments kept piling in, some people used this as an opportunity to stand up for PETA.

One person wrote: “I agree with peta. Steve Irwin was reckless in his handling of wild animals and it got him killed.”

Another wrote: “There’s a difference between showcasing animals for entertainment and educating abt animals/nature for helping the planet. Steve Irwin is just ignorant, naive and careless towards animals. I agree with you @peta #SteveIrwin”

Another added: “I agree with @PETA that the images of him torturing wildlife for odd displays in the #GoogleDoodle sends a dangerous message.”

PETA then took to Twitter again to underline their view on the matter, tweeting: “We stand by our comments. True protectors of wildlife leave animals in their natural habitats.

“They do not wrestle with animals.”

TV star Steve, who was known for his charisma and khaki shorts, died in 2006 after a stingray’s barb pierced his heart.

His wife Terri, along with his two children Robert and Bindi Irwini, have carried on his incredible work with animals at the family’s Australia Zoo in Queensland.
