WITH slightly crooked teeth, cheekbones capable of shaving slivers of Parmesan and a skeletal frame, she was the original face of “heroin chic”.

Yet although self-proclaimed party animal Kate Moss was dubbed Cocaine Kate — and dated crack addict rocker Pete Doherty — she insists she never touched heroin.

In her most frank interview to date, the 45-year-old supermodel, now a clean-living teetotaller, hit back. She said: “I’ve been described a lot. The horrible things, I disregard. Like, ‘Kate’s a smackhead’. There was a T-shirt that said that. I was p***ed off because I never did heroin. I just thought, ‘F***ing hell, I might as well!’ ”

Kate, who dated Libertines and Babyshambles frontman Doherty for two years until 2007, spent five weeks in rehab in 1998 battling booze demons.

First scouted for modelling in 1988, aged 14, she hit the big time five years later as a 6st 7lb waif fronting Calvin Klein’s Obsession perfume campaign — for which she went topless.

Her skinny figure with ribs protruding sparked outrage across the globe — with then US President Bill Clinton even condemning the look.

Londoner Kate joined an elite band of supermodels including Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Claudia Schiffer and Christy Turlington. And whereas designers had previously wanted tall, athletic-looking women, at 5ft 6in, Mossy broke the mould.

The girl from Croydon, South London, embraced the champagne-and-canapes lifestyle and became a fixture on the showbiz scene. But for her it was more champagne than canapes — as she was necking up to four bottles of bubbly on wild, all-night benders.

She added in the chat: “I don’t want to go back to how I was drinking. It wasn’t a healthy pattern. I was in denial.

“I could have carried on drinking but was beginning to not be very happy. It stops working after a while. A bit messy.

“I did it for a long time, it was a long period of going for it, and I drank more. I don’t think I was being over-dramatic when I went into treatment.

“I always said I was never going to go for it in a major way because I never wanted to go into rehab. I never ever wanted to end up in the position where I couldn’t have a drink.

“But I couldn’t keep myself in check any more. It got out of control.

“I don’t think alcohol can make you happy. I couldn’t think properly because I was always hung over.”

Drinking from breakfast to bedtime — “You just have champagne, always champagne before shows, even at 10am” — Kate checked herself into celebrity rehab centre The Priory to battle the booze and “exhaustion” in 1998.

Emerging weeks later, she gave a rare interview to The Face magazine — which last night put it online for the first time to launch its forthcoming print comeback.

In it, Kate also revealed she got her London home exorcised to banish demons. She said: “A priest came over, then a Thai lady. Prayers in every room.”

They told her the home was haunted by an angry man in the kitchen and a miserable little girl — who may have been a dead royal.

Kate, who once boasted that her superpower was never getting hangovers, later relapsed to her old ways and was apparently caught doing cocaine in a recording studio in 2005.

Holding a cigarette and drinking vodka and whisky, she apparently snorted five lines in the 40 minutes recorded on video.

There followed a reported further stint in rehab — at the exclusive Meadows clinic in Arizona — but when she returned to the UK she was soon back on the booze.

Even so, it didn’t stop her becoming Britain’s top-paid model, on up to £7million a year — and the first Brit to appear on the cover of Vogue ten times.

Today, Kate is worth £62million — “I make lots of money because I’m beautiful on the outside” — and has been happily dating 32-year-old British-German aristocrat Count Nikolai von Bismarck for almost four years.

He has been sober for two years and Kate half that time — her 36-hour benders now replaced by a regime of smoothies and yoga.

Her personal life has not always been so settled. She was heartbroken after splitting from Johnny Depp in 1998, and she partly blamed the movie star for her descent into drink and drugs.

After finishing with Doherty, she married The Kills rocker Jamie Hince in 2011 but they divorced five years later.

She is now said to be planning to marry Nikolai next summer. She is also extremely close to her model daughter Lila Grace, 16, the result of her brief relationship with publisher Jefferson Hack.

At the height of her partying, one of Kate’s drinking pals was David Cholmondeley — or Lord Cholmondeley, now married to model Rose Hanbury, a friend of the now Duchess of Cambridge.

Kate admitted she once called Cholmondeley at the end of an all-night bender. When she suggested visiting his country estate in Norfolk, he flew her by helicopter from London.

Kate was wearing a Galliano dress and carrying a tiara, and on the journey drank champagne and smoked. She said: “Suddenly I thought, ‘Oh my God, I am in The Great Gatsby’.

“It was the whole lifestyle. It doesn’t work (for Gatsby). It didn’t for me either. But it was great while I was doing it.”
