The RAF veteran, from Northampton, founded a footie team for other older former air force personnel to help them stay active.

He also serves as secretary for eight local sides and helps run ten teams for children.

The grandad, who has in the past received a Barclays Community Sports Award for his community football work, said: “I’m very proud to receive the Sun’s Hero Of The Week award.

“Every year more and more people joined so we started more teams and now we’ve had thousands of local people play for us.

“I like to think we’ve kept lots of kids off the streets and helped strengthen the community.

“I love football and it’s brought people together.”

See below how you can get involved by nominating a Good Samaritan, who could win a special Sun front page and a £50 thank you.
