THERESA May has issued a plea to angry Tory MPs to let her stay on as PM after Brexit so she can do more for the country.

The PM promised to step down before the 2022 general election to see off a bid to oust her in December.

After bitterness with her among Conservatives deepened since then, Cabinet ministers have told how they now expect her to stand down this summer.

But when quizzed about when she plans to resign, the PM insisted: “As far as I’m concerned, my job is not just about delivering Brexit.

“There is still a domestic agenda that I want to get on with.

“It reflects what I said on the doorstep of Number 10 when I first became PM.

“That’s why we’ve been making key decisions like the long-term plan for the NHS.”

But Mrs May refused to say whether she still expects to be Prime Minister by Christmas.

Asked that while on a flight to a summit of EU and Arab leaders yesterday, she would only say: “Come on. Every time I get on a plane, somebody starts asking that question.

“I’m not going to play that game today”.

The PM also insisted she isn’t racist, after defecting ex-Tory Anna Soubry accused her of having “a problem with immigration”.

Mrs May hit back: “No. Immigration has overall been good for the UK.

“I think what many people felt in relation to the EU is that they wanted decisions about who would come to the UK to be taken by the UK government and not be taken in Brussels.”
