APPLE may be preparing to launch as many as five new gadgets before Christmas – including iPhones and iPads.

The Californian tech giant is expected to debut the new products at an event in September, which is currently top secret and likely won’t be confirmed for several weeks.

There are five different types of iPad currently on sale, including the iPad Pro, iPad Air and iPad mini.

But Apple has now filed for two new iPad models with a European product watchdog.

The two iPads are codenamed A2200 and A2232, neither of which match existing iPad model numbers.

According to AppleInsider – which spotted the filings – one of the iPads could be a new 10.2-inch model.

The model numbers were filed with the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC).

That’s the watchdog responsible for regulating devices that have encryption technology sold in countries like Russia, Armenia and Belarus.

Filings only reveal model numbers publicly, but they also signal that a company may be about to launch new gadgets.

Apple will typically only file a product with regulators when it’s preparing to unveil the device.

It’s not just new iPads on the cards however: Apple is also poised to launch three new iPhone 11 models this year.

Respected Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims this year’s trio of iPhones will have screens measuring 5.4 inches, 6.1 inches and 6.7 inches from corner to corner.

The 6.1-inch model is likely to be a successor to the iPhone XR, and the 5.4-inch model is tipped to be a slightly smaller follow-on from the iPhone XS.

And Apple appears to be plotting a sizing-up of the iPhone XS Max by 0.2 inches.

This isn’t the first we’ve heard of such a move: earlier this year it was reported that the iPhone XS Max would have a 6.67-inch screen.

These huge sizes are so big that they border on becoming “tablets”.

One of the world’s most popular tablets, the Google Nexus 7, had a 7-inch screen.

And the proposed screen sizes aren’t far off Apple’s smallest tablet, the 7.9-inch iPad mini 5.

So when will Apple unveil these new gadgets?

The big launch event always takes place in September, and generally falls early on in the month – on a Tuesday or Wednesday, typically.

This year, the likeliest dates for an Apple event are Tuesday, September 10 or Wednesday, September 11.

Our money is on the former, so mark it in your calendars.

Of course, the iPhone won’t actually arrive in stores on launch day – you’ll have to wait about a week and a half to actually buy one.

Pre-orders will likely become available on Friday, September 13.

And our best guess is that the phone will turn up in your local Apple Store on Friday, September 25.

Apple hasn’t announced any such plans however, so take all rumours, leaks and predictions with a pinch of salt.
