Tottenham (4-3-1-2)

Hugo Lloris – 7

Relieved to see Laporte’s strike ruled out but despite plenty of City attacks he faced few shots until denying Dias late on with a stunning reflex save.

Serge Aurier – 6

A chance to shine with Matt Docherty self-isolating. Came under pressure as City built attacks down his side but stuck to the task.

Toby Alderweireld – 8

An excellent last-ditch tackle to deny Jesus early on set the tone for a predictably busy evening until his groin gave way ten minutes from time.

Eric Dier – 8

Maximum concentration was required and delivered as City came at Tottenham. Blocked and tackled to good effect throughout.

Sergio Reguilón – 7

Kept Mahrez quiet, helped subdue De Bruyne and got forward to good effect when he could.

Moussa Sissoko – 7

One scary moment when Cancelo tumbled under a challenge but otherwise helped his defence soak up City pressure. Booked for a first half foul as the pressure built.

Pierre Højbjerg -7

Sat in effectively against De Bruyne and company, closing down spaces tirelessly and getting a vital foot in on more than one occasion.

Tanguy Ndombele – 6

Excellent vision to spot Son’s run for the opening goal and a perfectly-executed pass. Tired in the second half.

Harry Kane – 8

Denied himself a goal with a careless offside but did all of his best work in his new deep-lying role. His vision and pass for Lo Celso’s goal showed his value there. Booked for a late foul on Dias.

Son Heung-min – 6

Another goal against City for Son, made by a clever run and clinical finish. But his touch let him down for once in a similar situation after 62 minutes.

Steven Bergwijn – 6

One clever first-time pass almost led to a second Tottenham goal until Kane strayed offside but spent most of his 73 minutes tracking City players.

Subs

Giovani Lo Celso (for Ndombele, 65mins) – 7

Lucas Moura (for Bergwijn, 73mins) – 6

Joe Rodon (For Alderweireld, 82mins) – 6

Subs (not used) Hart, Bale, Davies, Carlos Vinicius.

Man City (4-3-3)

Ederson – 5

At fault for both Tottenham’s goals as he charged rashly off his line and made the scorers’ minds up for them. Lucky to get away with another rush of blood in the second half.

Kyle Walker – 5

Started many of City’s attacks on his 300th PL appearance but was caught well out of position upfield as Tottenham broke away to double their lead.

Rúben Dias – 7

His pace snuffed out a number of promising Spurs attacks but others let him down for Tottenham’s goals. Yellow carded for a foul on Kane late on.

Aymeric Laporte – 6

Saw an accomplished left-foot finish for a central defender ruled out for handball against Jesus but looked uncomfortable whenever Spurs broke.

Joao Cancelo – 7

Allowed Son to escape him for the opening goal. Tried to make up for it with attacking surges down the left but failed to impress with a fall in the penalty area.

Kevin De Bruyne – 6

Carried the game into the heart of the Spurs block as usual but his teammates could not respond. And he was unable to prevent Lo Celso doubling the lead.

Rodri – 6

Put an early header straight at Hugo Lloris but was always available and kept the ball moving as City built attack after attack.

Bernardo Silva – 5

Looked to try to find space on the left but unable to make headway or play that subtle final pass through the massed Tottenham ranks.

Ferran Torres – 4

An early shot as he looked to follow up his midweek hat-trick for Spain against Germany was a false dawn. A foul on Lo Celso showed his frustration at a limp performance.

Gabriel Jesus – 5

Kept the home defence at full stretch but a careless handball denied City a first-half goal they would have deserved at that point.

Riyad Mahrez – 4

A ‘nearly’ performance as he struggled to play the final pass or beat the last man. No surprise when he was substituted as City looked for a way through.
