THE Only Way Is Essex is set to return to Marbella after show stars failed to deliver last series.

Producers are heading back to the former Essex hot spot in a bid to boost ratings- and insiders say the upcoming series will have more shock hook-ups and drama than ever before.

A source revealed, “Marbella is like a spiritual home for most of the cast and they are so pleased they will be filming there again – especially after last year’s drama when they went to Sardinia.

“Some of the show’s most iconic moments have happened there and bosses are hoping to create some more TV gold.”

The Spanish seaside town of Marbella has long been a favourite of stars of the show, with its lively bars and clubs the perfect place to party.

And despite doing their best to pull out all the stops with a trip to Thailand last year, bosses have been urged to take it back to basics.

They added: “The last couple of years have seen the gang travel around the world but nothing beats Spain and they can’t wait to get filming again.

“The summer special will be back to its best and viewers are in for some more explosive moments that will go down in reality TV history.”

Last year The Sun Online exclusively revealed the cast were left fuming after bosses ditched their annual trips to Marbs in favour of the Italian seaside town of Sardinia.

While the likes of show veterans Chloe Sims and Gemma Collins skipped filming, Tommy Mallet, Pete Wicks and Georgia Kousoulou were among some of the stars on the trip.

A source said: “They’re going to Sardinia in Italy this year, not Marbs, so it’s going to be a really different trip this year.

“Every year, the cast beg producers to go to LA or Miami or Dubai, so when they heard it was Italy, some cast were furious because they think there are much more fun places to film.

“Only half the cast are going too – even though it’s not going to be wild clubbing and nights out, they’re all desperate to go!

“Nobody wants to be left at home.”

The ITVbe show has previously jetted its stars out to Las Vegas, Majorca and Barcelona, but it’s clear nothing quite beats Marbs.

Not only has the Essex hot spot delivered some of the reality series’ memorable moments, it’s also paved way for the shows most dramatic showdowns.

Gemma Collins’ famous “candy” catchphrase made its debut in Marbs after the star called out James Argent for disrespecting her at a pool party.

The Spanish resort also played setting to Joey Essex and Sam Faiers’ emotional split, which saw the Essex lad call off their two-month engagement.

And while the Spanish resort may have been the background for a few relationships breakdowns, it’s also produced plenty of surprise hook ups from the likes of Chloe Sims, Elliott Wright, Lauren Pope, Jon Clark, Jess Wright and Pete Wicks.

Although it was Lucy Mecklenburgh and Dan Osbourne’s saucy holiday antics that really got viewers talking after the pair shared a one-night stand.
