BREAKING: US Treasury announces sanctions on Iran over election interference campaign
The US Treasury Department has imposed sanctions on Iran over its attempt to interfere with US presidential election.
Officials on Thursday identified five Iranian entities that were found to have ‘directly or indirectly engaged in, sponsored, concealed, or otherwise been complicit’ in trying to compromise the outcome of the election.
‘As a result of today’s designations, all property and interests in property of the persons designated today subject to US jurisdiction are blocked, and US persons are generally prohibited from engaging in transactions with them,’ department officials said.
‘The Iranian regime uses false narratives and other misleading content to attempt to influence U.S. elections,’ Mnuchin said in a statement.
‘This Administration is committed to ensuring the integrity of the U.S. election system and will continue to counter efforts from any foreign actor that threatens our electoral processes.’
This is a developing story. More to come.
