Trump on alert as Iran issue brutal threat: US will 'kneel in front of Iranian nation'

Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi took to Twitter yesterday to condemn comments made by US Special Representative for Iran, Brian Hook.

In an interview with Al-Arabiya on Thursday, Mr Hook said he was satisfied with the results of recent sanctions imposed on Tehran.

But Mousavi attacked Washington in what is thought to be a reference the recent death of George Floyd, who died after a policeman knelt on his neck for almost nine minutes whilst he was handcuffed and lying face down in the street.

Turning his attack on the US, Mousavi wrote: “You will soon kneel in front of Iranian Nation.”

Both countries have been in heated battles over the last few years as Trump’s administration claims Iran threatens its allies.

The latest heated argument saw US troops kill Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps General Qassem Soleimani in January.

However, Iran responded by attacking Iraq air bases hosting US troops.

Tehran also yesterday rejected a United Nations report that said cruise missiles used in attacks on oil facilities and an airport in Saudi Arabia last year were of “Iranian origin”.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres told the Security Council that several items in US seizures of weapons and related materiel in November 2019 and February 2020 were “of Iranian origin”.

But Iran’s Foreign Ministry hit back in a statement which said: “Iran denies allegations by the U.N. Secretariat that appear to have been made under political pressure from the US and Saudi regimes.

“Interestingly, the report comes at a time when the United States is working to draft a dangerous resolution to extend an arms embargo against Iran.”

Iran has called on its allies Russia and China to resist a push by Washington to extend a UN-imposed arms embargo that is due to expire in October under Tehran’s 2015 nuclear deal with six world powers.

Iranian investigators have also asked France’s BEA air accident agency to read black boxes from a downed Ukrainian jetliner, Iran’s envoy to the United Nations aviation agency said.

The Ukraine International Airlines flight was shot down on Jan. 8 by an Iranian ground-to-air missile, killing 176 people in what Tehran termed a “disastrous mistake” at a time of heightened tensions with the United States.
