Stephanie Grisham, 42, was reportedly in an “all out brawl” with Kim Jong-un’s henchmen as the two leaders met for the first time on North Korean soil.
A scuffle between reporters and security guards can be seen in footage emerging from the meeting.
The press were jostling to capture the historic moment as Donald Trump sat down with Kim in the Panmunjom truce village in the Demilitarised Zone between the two Koreas.
Stephanie Grisham reportedly came out of the meeting with bruises.
“History was made today – honoured to witness it”
Sources said the press secretary was involved in an “all out brawl”, according to CNN reporter Jim Acosta.
Reporters tried to enter a room inside the Freedom House on the southern side of Panmunjom where Trump and Kim Jong-un were meeting after exchanging initial handshakes on the border.
They were physically prevented from entering the room and Grisham can be seen in the footage pushing the security out the way to let the press through.
Despite the ruckus Grisham didn’t mention the incident on Twitter.
She tweeted: “Unbelievable to watch our @potus @realdonaldtrump work so hard on behalf of this country over the past few days (and always!).
“History was made today – honoured to witness it.”
Grisham served as Trump’s travelling press aide during his presidential campaign and was also press secretary to first lady Melania Trump.
Trump took a historic step into North Korea earlier today.
“Stepping across that line has been a great honour,” Trump said as he sat down with Kim.
Moments later, they returned to the southern side and joined South Korea’s President Moon Jae-in for a brief chat, marking an unprecedented three-way gathering.
Trump and Kim then held a closed-door meeting for nearly an hour.
“We just had a very, very good meeting,” Trump said after the talks. “We’ll see what can happen.”
